Florida Highway Patrol Crash

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. – According to Florida Highway Patrol, a 25-year-old Zephyrhills woman was killed in a DUI crash around 10:00 pm on Tuesday.

Troopers say a Honda Accord was traveling northbound on I-75 near Milepost 268 at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the Honda, a 31-year-old Tampa man, overtook and collided with a Chevy Cruz.

This impact caused the Chevy to rotate into the median, where the vehicle collided with a tree, killing the 25-year-old woman, a passenger in the car. The driver of the Chevy, a 25-year-old Zephyrhills man, suffered serious injuries.

Troopers say that one or both vehicles collided with a third car after the initial impact, and the occupants suffered only minor injuries.

FHP Troopers arrested the driver of the Honda, Michael Troy Jones, 31, Tampa, for DUI Manslaughter and DUI Serious Injury.  Jones was later booked into the Hillsborough County Jail.
