Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro has referred to “The View” co-host Joy Behar as the “id” of the Democratic Party.
As Sigmund Freud noted, the id is the part of the human psyche driven by impulses and instincts to meet basic human needs, and is not governed by reality or logic.
For Behar, one of the left’s more widely quoted political analysts, that basic need appears to be a vacation.
On Thursday, Behar’s fellow hosts were agonizing over Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Renowned race-baiter Sunny Hostin lamented that some analysts predicted 50,000 Ukrainians would die in the conflict, and perhaps 5 million would become refugees.
Yet Behar wondered – out loud – how the combat in that part of the former Soviet Union would affect her upcoming trip to Italy.
“I’m scared of what’s going to happen in western Europe, too. You plan a trip, you want to go there, I’ve wanted to go to Italy for four years, and I haven’t been able to make it because of the pandemic and now this. It’s like, what’s going to happen there?”
By the way, Chicago is 200 miles closer to New York than the current fighting in Ukraine is to Italy.
Behar was rightfully lit up on social media.
For example, one Twitter user noted, “Someone please call Putin and explain that this invasion thing might ruin Joy Behar’s trip to Italy.”
Another tweeted, “Thoughts are with Joy and her family tonight at this difficult time.”
Said another on Twitter, “I can believe she’d think it, but I didn’t think she’d say it out loud.”
And yet another, undoubtedly speaking for many of us, asked, “How is she still on television?”
