Rebekah Jones is back in the news, and naturally, it’s not in a good way. The disgraced former Florida Department of Health employee took a shot at first lady Casey DeSantis, positioning herself as a breast cancer denier.

Jones crept back into the social media limelight on Thursday, when she commented on a post that Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis made on X (formerly Twitter.)

After Iowa’s GOP Gov. Kim Reynolds announced on Thursday that her husband Kevin had been diagnosed with lung cancer, DeSantis posted, “Casey and I are praying for Governor @KimReynoldsIA and Kevin as they set out to defeat his announced diagnosis.”

“As we have experienced firsthand, battling cancer is not an easy fight but prayers and support from the people around you raises your chances of success. We intend to provide that support to Kim and Kevin,” DeSantis added.

He was referring to the battle his wife, Casey, fought after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021. Casey was declared cancer free in March 2022.

Jones replied to Gov. DeSantis: “Most people don’t believe your cancer story, boo.”

As gathered by the website Twitchy.com, conservatives lit up Jones on X.

“You’re a despicable loon,” wrote one commenter in reply. Another added, “You’re insane and a clown.” Still another noted, “Jones is such a trash person to accuse Casey of doing exactly what she actually did do.”

Which is the point.

Jones, who last year was elected by Democratic voters in the Panhandle to challenge Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz, is one of the most notorious liars in public life in Florida.

As the Tampa Free Press has reported, Jones was fired from the Department of Health and then investigated for pilfering sensitive government data.

She pleaded guilty in December to stealing confidential data from the department, which came after an inspector general’s investigation said her claims that DeSantis had cooked the books to understate the number of COVID-related deaths were baseless.

In December 2020, when state law enforcement agents executed a search warrant connected to that case, Jones claimed she was terrorized during a “raid” by gun-wielding officers. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement subsequently released body-cam footage that showed no such thing happened.

In May 2021, National Review decimated the claim by Jones, whom USA Today once described as “data scientist-turned-whistleblower” against DeSantis, noted that she had lied all along about the COVID data because she had admitted she had no access to the database that she was allegedly told to delete data from.

In April, when Jones’ 13-year-old son was arrested for threatening to shoot up his middle school, Jones falsely claimed that DeSantis was behind the arrest, even though authorities obtained social media posts in which the teenager made the threats.

Regarding last year’s election, her opponent in the Democratic primary sued to get Jones tossed off the ballot, claiming Jones lied on election documents about how long she had been a registered Democrat in Florida.

A state appeals court allowed her candidacy to continue, saying the fault was in how the law was worded.
