Deputies and several Good Samaritans in Florida worked together Tuesday on a dramatic rescue that saved the life of a woman in danger.
At 6:44 p.m., deputies responded to calls about a woman standing on the Santa Barbara Blvd. overpass, on the outside of the protective fencing, threatening to jump onto I-75 below. Deputy Rebecca Maciques and a civilian reached through the fence and held the woman, who tried to break free.
The driver of a box truck heading southbound on I-75 saw the struggle and parked his vehicle below the woman. Corporal James Sheran climbed on top of the truck and worked with Dep. Maciques to lower the woman and secure her.
“This was excellent work by our deputies, who will use any means necessary to protect and save lives, including putting themselves in harm’s way,” Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said. “This was a tremendous display of teamwork between law enforcement and civilians, who worked together to save a woman in crisis.”

Greater Naples Fire Rescue and EMS assisted in the rescue. The victim was transported to NCH Downtown Baker Hospital for evaluation.
