Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday joined a growing chorus of conservative lawmakers and pundits who want radical left-wing Rep. Ilhan Omar tossed from Congress, and perhaps kicked out of the country.

The Republican governor was reacting to recent reporting about a speech that Omar, a native of Somalia, recently gave in which she expressed allegiance to her native land and suggested the U.S. government would do the bidding of Somalis.

“Expel from Congress, denaturalize and deport!” DeSantis posted on his personal X account in commenting on a post of Omar’s speech last week.

During her remarks, which were delivered in Somali, the leftist congresswoman was criticizing a deal between Ethiopia and Somaliland, a small region that broke away from Somalia more than 30 years ago but which enjoys little international recognition.

Under the partnership she criticized, landlocked Ethiopia could access the Red Sea through Somaliland, whose residents, in turn, would receive Ethiopia’s help in gaining international recognition.

In her speech, Omar said Somalians contacted her about getting the U.S. government to thwart the agreement. “The U.S. government will only do what Somalis in the U.S. tell them to do,” she said.

“They will do what we want and nothing else,” she added. “They must follow our orders, and that is how we will safeguard the interests of Somalia.”

“We Somalians must have that confidence in ourselves that we call for the shots in the U.S.,” she continued. Omar then added that she is in Congress to represent the interests of Somalians.

“Sleep in comfort, knowing I am here to protect the interests of Somalia from inside the U.S. system,” she said.

“We, as Somalians, … are an organized society, brothers and sisters, people of the same blood, people who know they are Somalians first and Muslims second,” Omar added.

DeSantis’ comment on Tuesday echoed comments by other Republicans, such as Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Tom Emmer, and Mike Collins.

“She flaunts using her position as congresswoman to protect Somalia’s border while our border is invaded by MILLIONS of illegals who are a danger to America,” Greene said on X. “These people hate America and they’re so emboldened by the Democrats’ disdain for our country, they’re not even trying to hide it anymore.”

On X, Emmer added, “Ilhan Omar’s appalling, Somalia-first comments are a slap in the face to the Minnesotans she was elected to serve and a direct violation of her oath of office. She should resign in disgrace.”

Collins told the website Just The News, “I wouldn’t have understood a word that she was saying she should be speaking in English. And the fact that we’ve already gotten rid of one member of Congress this year, would be in full support or getting rid of another one. And that would be her.”

“[T]o tell people that we’re going to force the American government to do what Somalia wants, and what’s in the best interests of Somalia,” he added.

“You know, my advice to her is if she wants to be a part of that government, go back to Somalia and sign up or whatever form of government they have. But when you’re here, and you’re in the United States of America, especially when you’re a representative in Congress, this is America First.”
