Applications for unemployment benefits in Florida continue to come in at a slow, steady pace. The U.S. Department of Labor on Thursday issued a report that estimated 5,818 initial jobless claims were filed in Florida last week, down from a revised count of 6,183 during the week that ended Dec. 2.

Last week’s total also was near a weekly average of 5,809 claims since the start of the year. Nationally, claims fell by 19,000 last week to 202,000.

The Department of Labor said last week that the national unemployment rate in November was 3.7 percent. Florida had a 2.8 percent unemployment rate in October, indicating an estimated 318,000 people were out of work from a labor force of 11.174 million.

The state Department of Commerce will release a November unemployment report on Dec. 22.
