The incident happened on February 13, 2024, according to jail records.

Officers discovered the dog on a dog bed on the back patio, nearly decapitated, with its head only held on by a small piece of skin from the back of its neck, according to the outlet.

The roommate told police that he was awakened by the sound of the dog yelping and crying in fear.

He stated that when he looked outside, he saw McKinney actively twisting and wrenching the dog’s neck, attempting to separate the head from the body, according to the outlet.

McKinney’s roommate then saw McKinney use the same knife to cut his own throat.
