The Miami Republican may get an answer today.

The House could vote as early as today on Salazar’s resolution to condemn socialism. Salazar floated the measure last week.

The resolution says in part that “socialist ideology necessitates a concentration of power that has time and time again collapsed into Communist regimes, totalitarian rule, and brutal dictatorships.”

It then draws a line to underscore that brutality to connect “socialist ideologues” from V.I. Lenin, leader of the communist revolution in Russia more than a century ago, to like-minded contemporaries like North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Salazar notes they collectively killed more than 100 million people worldwide from violence and communist policies.

The resolution proposes that “Congress denounces socialism in all its forms, and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States of America.”

“The resolution is very clear. Either you’re with it, or you’re not,” Salazar told the Times.

Left-wing Democrats objected. New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described democratic socialist, was a likely no-vote, telling the Washington Times, “What Republicans consider socialism is Medicare and Social Security. I would really caution anyone from being duped.”

Yet some Democrats are willing to go along and not be seen in league with Fidel Castro and Joseph Stalin.

A small group of reportedly centrist Democrats led by Rep. Annie Kuster of New Hampshire announced they will back Salazar.

The group, called the New Democrat Coalition, said in a statement, “New Dems reject socialism — period.”
