Former MLB Player Gets 9 Years In Prison After Sexually Abusing Indiana Softball Player He Coached

Dustan Kyle Mohr, a former high school coach, and Major League Baseball (MLB) outfielder has recently been sentenced to nine years in prison for child sexual abuse charges.

This shocking case has garnered significant attention due to Mohr’s background in sports and the severity of the offenses.

Mohr, 47, faced multiple charges related to child sexual abuse. Originally charged with child solicitation, child seduction, sexual misconduct with a minor, and dissemination of matter harmful to minors in August 2023, Mohr pleaded guilty to child solicitation, child seduction, and sexual misconduct with a minor in March 2024.

As part of the plea agreement, the dissemination charge was dropped.

On April 28, 2024, Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull sentenced Dustan Kyle Mohr to nine years in prison, with five years on each count and two years suspended.

This means that Mohr will serve an executed sentence of nine years. The charges he faced carried a potential sentence of up to 18 years. Additionally, Mohr was ordered to pay more than $13,300 to two individuals.

During the trial, Mohr’s 14-year-old victim provided police with evidence of sexually explicit text messages and photos she had received from him. The Allen County Sheriff’s Office Detective Nicholas Keefer, who worked on the case, detailed in a probable cause affidavit that the victim also disclosed instances of inappropriate physical contact by Mohr.

Before his conviction, Dustan Kyle Mohr had a career in professional baseball. He played as an outfielder for various MLB teams, including the Minnesota Twins from 2001 to 2003, the San Francisco Giants in 2004, the Colorado Rockies in 2005, the Boston Red Sox in 2006, and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2007.

Mohr also served as the assistant baseball coach at Northrop High School until around 2021.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Office investigated Dustan Kyle Mohr’s actions. They gathered evidence and statements from the victim and other relevant individuals to build a strong case against Mohr.

The prosecution presented this evidence during the trial, leading to his guilty plea and subsequent sentencing.
