Democrats in Congress cut a sweetheart deal for a meditation app so House staffers could deal with Jan. 6

Fraction Of Expected $6 Trillion Spend Speaks Volumes Of The Era We Live In

The federal government is expected to spend more than $6 trillion in fiscal 2022, which ends next month.

The federal government is expected to spend more than $6 trillion in fiscal 2022, which ends next month.

But a tiny fraction of that – just $96,000 – speaks volumes about the era we live in.

According to the federal budget watchdog group OpenTheBooks.org, the U.S. government last year cut a deal with Calm, a San Francisco-based health software company, to provide House staff members a free subscription to the company’s renowned meditation, sleep, and relaxation app.

Why? Jan. 6.

The little-known news actually first surfaced in July. Fox News reported that something called the House Center for Well Being made the deal with Calm.

It did so at the behest of Rep. Tim Ryan, an Ohio Democrat who is battling Republican J.D. Vance for a Senate seat there.

According to the terms of the deal that started last October, taxpayers pay Calm $2 a month for each subscriber up to a total of 4,000 people per month – which equates to $96,000 for the year.

If you’re not a House staff member, you’d pay Calm $15 a month, or a reduced rate of $70 for the entire year.

Ryan, whom Fox described as a “well-known devotee of yoga and meditation,” touted the arrangement in December in a letter.

“As we head into 2022 and prepare to mark the first anniversary of the events of January 6, 2021, be assured that these offices are here to support you with their comprehensive mental and emotional support resources and to help develop and improve your resilience, growth, productivity, and overall well-being,” Ryan’s letter said.

Fox noted that the Calm funding was buried in a $1.9 billion bill that was intended to boost security at the Capitol after the riot by Donald Trump supporters.

Much of the country has moved on from Jan. 6, 2021, because most of the 800 perps identified by the Justice Department have been prosecuted and jailed or soon will be.

Those Americans are more concerned about the damage Biden has inflicted on the economy and the Constitution.

But for Democrats, Jan. 6 is eternal, and they perpetually show they cannot “keep calm and carry on,” as the late British prime minister Neville Chamberlain once recommended, even with their access to Calm.
