An active duty US Army soldier was arrested on Sunday in Florida after an odd series of events led investigators to a plethora of weapons and a fake bomb.

At approximately 4:10 pm yesterday, Port St. Lucie Police Department responded to a 911 call of a vehicle that crashed into a yard.

Officers arrived on the scene and conducted a traffic stop at SE Sandia Dr and SE Crosspoint Dr on a white Scion that was attempting to leave the scene of the crash.

As Officers approached the vehicle, they immediately noticed the driver, 21-year-old Johann Robey, was wearing a tactical ballistic vest that contained rifle and pistol magazines. Officers also saw an AR15 rifle on the passenger seat.

Officers then located a Ziploc bag inside the vehicle containing what appeared to be an explosive device with wiring. A perimeter was established, and houses were evacuated in the area.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Disposal Team, FBI, and ATF responded to assist with the investigation. At approximately 12:45 am, the bomb disposal team rendered the device safe, and preliminary testing determined it was not an explosive device.

An additional 7 items were safely removed from the vehicle by the SLCSO Bomb Team and will undergo further testing.

Johann Robey, 21, was arrested and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail for possession of a hoax bomb, 3 counts of carrying a concealed weapon, and 2 counts of attempted escape as he tried to remove his handcuffs while in custody.

Robey spoke with investigators, however, he gave no indication of what his intent was on Sunday evening.

Police say he is an active member of the US Army and was on leave while visiting Port St. Lucie.

PSLPD thanks our local and federal law enforcement partners for assisting with the investigation. This is a good reminder for our citizens, “if you see something, say something.”
