TAMPA, Fla. – Two Tampa women are facing charges for intentionally burning young children in their care with a hot pot.
Officers were made aware of the abuse on August 18, 2022, after a victim, who is under the age of 10, showed up at school with welts, blisters, and fresh burn marks on the body.
The child was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s Hospital for medical care.
The Department of Children and Families (DCF) was contacted, prompting a child protective investigator to respond to the home. It was discovered that another child in the residence, who is under the age of five, had similar injuries.
Following an investigation, officers learned that the children were intentionally burned by Chazay Durant, 24, with a hot pot and one of the children was held down by Shyandria Scott, 19, during the incident.

One of the children was burned badly enough that the circular lines on the bottom of the pot were imprinted on the skin. The exact cause of the abuse is under investigation.
For safety, all children were removed from the home and medically assessed, according to police.
On August 26, 2022, both Durant and Scott were located and arrested. Durant now faces two charges of aggravated child abuse. Scott is facing one charge of aggravated child abuse.
