Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Thursday advocated for a House censure for Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, following the Democrat’s claim that she is a “Somali first.”

Greene, a Georgia Republican, introduced a resolution to that effect, asserting Omar made “treasonous” statements about defending the interests of Somalia while allegedly serving Minnesota.

Greene was referring to a speech Omar gave last Saturday to a group of Somali-Americans in Minneapolis.

As the Tampa Free Press has reported, during her remarks, which were delivered in Somalia, the leftist congresswoman criticized a deal between Ethiopia and Somaliland, a small region that broke away from Somalia more than 30 years ago but enjoys little international recognition.

Under the partnership that Omar criticized, landlocked Ethiopia could access the Red Sea through Somaliland, whose residents, in turn, would receive Ethiopia’s help in gaining international recognition.

“The U.S. government will only do what Somalis in the U.S. tell them to do,” she said at one point. “They will do what we want and nothing else. They must follow our orders, and that is how we will safeguard the interests of Somalia.”

“Sleep in comfort, knowing I am here to protect the interests of Somalia from inside the U.S. system,” she said. “We, as Somalians, … are Somalians first and Muslims second,”

In her floor speech, Greene slammed Omar’s “treasonous tendencies” and “treasonous statements.”

She added that Omar had said, “She has spoken to many Somalians who asked her to intercede for the Somali government by pressuring the United States government into certain actions.”

Greene argued that Omar has thus violated her oath to defend the Constitution by placing Somalia’s interests over those of the U.S.

“Her actions must be condemned by all members of Congress,” Greene added. “Omar has revealed herself to be a foreign agent, acting on behalf of a foreign government.”
