Hit-And-Run Driver Who Killed 23-Year-Old Pedestrian Arrested

TAMPA, Fla. – A 34-year-old man who killed a pedestrian overnight has been arrested, according to Tampa Police Department.

According to police, on Thursday, at approximately 11:40 p.m., the driver of a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta, later identified as 34-year-old Vincent Oliver, was traveling eastbound on Busch Blvd near N 50th St when he struck the 23-year-old victim man who was attempting to cross outside the designated crosswalk.

Oliver immediately fled the scene.

Upon their arrival, officers located the victim, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Oliver’s vehicle came to a stop near a convenience store, where he fled again, this time on foot, officers say.

With assistance from Air Service, K-9, and other Patrol Units, Oliver was located hiding underneath a nearby vehicle approximately one mile away from the scene.

Oliver was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital after telling officers he had ingested narcotics and was exhibiting erratic behavior.

Following medical discharge, Oliver was transported to Orient Road Jail, where he was charged with One Misdemeanor Count of Resisting Officer Without Violence, One Felony Count of DUI Manslaughter Leaving the Scene, One Felony Count of Leaving the Scene of the a Crash with Death, One Felony Count of Driving While License Canceled, Suspended, or Revoked (Death or Serious Bodily Injury).
