If you’re already into gaming, you’re well aware of how fun it can be. But while there are plenty of games that you can play on your own, like solitaire and some PC or console games, sometimes you also want the option to play with people you know and love. Whether you’re into board games, online gaming, or coop games, it’s great to have a crowd of people who enjoy the same things.

If you already have friends or family who share this hobby, then you’re one step ahead. You can also meet people as you game who can become your gaming buddies. But sometimes you might be able to convert someone into becoming a budding gamer, so you can spend more time with them and have more fun together.

‘Gaming’ as a hobby covers a wide range of games, so often the trick to getting into gaming is to find out what kinds of games really interest you. This also applies to your family and friends. If you want to introduce them to your hobby, it’s a good idea to give them different options about what they can play and how.

Introduce Them to Mobile Games

Mobile games can sometimes have a bad rep. Some people don’t see them as “real games”, and others raise concerns about how many mobile games are designed to be addictive rather than satisfying to play. Some games are also clearly designed to encourage kids to buy in-game items, with a “pay to win” strategy.

However, while some of these criticisms and concerns are legitimate, there are other reasons why mobile gaming is so popular.

For starters, mobile gaming is incredibly accessible. Most people have a mobile phone, which means that most people can access these games. Many mobile games are free, while some quality games can be bought for very little money.

That brings us to the next point. While some mobile games are just designed to draw people into spending money, many mobile games are designed with the same love and care as any other platform.

Host a Games Night

While gaming often refers to video games, where you use a console or computer of some kind to play a game, it can also refer to physical gaming. Card games and board games are both great options for all kinds of gamers, whether they’re inexperienced or experts.

If you know a few people who you want to introduce to gaming, you might consider hosting a games night. This is a party where you get together and play games, and it can include playing on a console as well as the classic board or card games nights.

When planning a games night, try to ensure everyone has fun. Like any other party, you want to provide food and drinks, even if it’s just snacks and soft drinks to keep everyone’s energy up.

You also want to think about the games you play and who you invite. People who aren’t that interested in in-depth games probably won’t want to dive into a tabletop RPG, and if you do plan on something like this, you should probably at least inform the guests about it.

Party games are a great option for people who aren’t into gaming yet. But if you have some potential gamers mixed into the crowd, you can consider some board games that require some strategy, teamwork, and other skills gamers will appreciate.

Explore Different Genres

As mentioned above, gaming is wonderful because it encompasses so many different genres and ways to play. Sometimes it can take a little time to find the niche that appeals to you or your loved ones.

Some genres are more accessible than others and are very easy to get into. Puzzle games, simulation games, and other games that allow people to play around and think creatively can be a lot of fun and might appeal to some who aren’t interested in more mainstream genres.

Some games are more focused on telling a story than actual gameplay, which can also be a great way to highlight the artistry in games and the different experiences you can have.

Of course, high-octave games like first-person shooters, racing games, and other action games might draw people in. On the other hand, adventure and RPG games might appeal to people who want a balance between gameplay and plot.

This covers a few different genres, and we haven’t even touched on strategy games, colony builders, and management games. Some games blur the lines between genres, and you can already see that there’s something for nearly everyone and for every mood. So don’t be discouraged if your friend doesn’t fall in love with the first game you show them.

Play With Them

Sometimes, introducing someone to a fantastic single-player game is all you need to do. But often, playing with the person is the best way to draw them into your hobby. A games night is a great way to start, but playing one-on-one with a person is a great way to have fun and introduce them to something you love.

Again, this involves thinking about the kind of person they are and how they prefer to have fun. Some people love a challenge. If you’re an experienced gamer, they might be willing to take you on in a game and try to beat you. But a lot of people don’t find it very fun to get beaten over and over again, so think about other ways to play.

Co-op is a great option, as you can both tackle a challenge together. You can also teach them how to play while you get into the game and, while they’re just starting, you can make sure they have fun and don’t get into too much trouble.

Or, if it is a single-player game, don’t be afraid to let them play on your console and take a backseat gamer role. Just avoid being too bossy while they make mistakes.

You can easily play online, but there’s something wonderful about hanging out in the same house and using the same console if you can.
