BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – A barn in Brooksville was destroyed by fire Sunday, according to officials, which was caused by an illegal burn.

Just before 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 26th, while many Hernando County Fire units were still operating at the fire scene on Talisman Street, a second structure fire was received in the 26000 block of Richbarn Road in eastern Hernando County.

Crews arrived to find a 40×40 barn fully engulfed in flames and fire spreading to brush on the property.

“The primary focus of firefighters was to prevent the brush fire from spreading out of control due to the very dry conditions and limited water availability from there being no fire hydrants in this area and HCFR’s water tankers already committed to the nearby Talisman Street fire,” said HCFR.

The fire was contained with the use of brush trucks.

The barn was a total loss, and eventually, the flames were extinguished once additional water tankers arrived.

Fire Crews from as far west as Station 12 near Deltona Blvd and Cortez Blvd responded to this barn fire blaze. No injuries were reported, and the cause was determined to be an illegal burn.
