During the looting and unrest that broke off from peaceful protests, Apple stores were a target.

“Please return to Apple Walnut Street. This device has been disabled and is being tracked. Local authorities will be alerted”

iPhones contain certain tracking devices and the stolen merchandise will lead law enforcement to the location of those devices, according to Apple. Most of these devices will be parted out and sold in pieces before they can be located and not likely being returned to the stores or found by investigators.

The message that greets a looter on a stolen device says; “This device has been disabled and is being tracked,”

“Local authorities will be alerted.”
