A mysterious explosion destroyed a suburban house in Plano, Texas, leaving at least six people hospitalized on Monday afternoon, Fox 4 reported.

The explosion happened during a storm, and people living a mile away felt it, according to Fox 4. It flattened the home and caused significant damage to nearby homes.

“I just happened to be looking out my window right as it happened and it was a big flash of bright light,” said Taylor Reddick, who lives close by, according to Fox 4. “It had been lightning a lot already, and I just saw a huge black smoke go up and debris go flying in the air. It all happened very fast.”

Three adults and three children were transported from the destroyed house, but their conditions are unknown, according to Fox 4. Only one person was inside the home, and the other five lived in a home close by.

Children left the nearby home to get into an ambulance on their own, Tony Clark said, according to Fox 4. “Yeah, I didn’t see any wounds or anything on them. They walked just fine.”

The Plano Fire Department said they cut off power and gas to the block because it’s standard protocol, according to Fox 4.

There have been multiple incidents of house explosions throughout the U.S. in recent years. For example, a Michigan homeowner’s dogs and newspaper delivery man rescued the homeowner and her family from an explosion that demolished her home on July 6.

A house explosion in North Carolina left four dead in June, and a massive explosion and fireball consumed a house in Rochester, New York, in December 2020.
