A New York man, with 14 prior theft convictions is wanted for stealing vacuums in Polk County, Florida.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office Deputies are searching for 55-year-old Cassius Butler of Cheektowaga, New York—he has a Polk County warrant for dealing in stolen property and grand theft.

According to investigators, on13th of December, Butler stole two Dyson vacuums, valued at about $650 apiece from a retailer in Polk County.

“Unlike some parts of California, New York, etc., we take theft seriously,” said PCSO. “Through investigative resources, we were able to acquire a very nice picture of the vehicle the suspect was driving. In other words, modern shopping plazas have cameras.”

Further investigation revealed the registered owner of the vehicle was not the driver of the vehicle; however, the registered owner identified the driver once provided with evidence in the case.

A check of the suspect’s—Mr. Butler’s—pawn history revealed he pawned two Dyson vacuums at a pawn shop in Orlando the same day the theft occurred.

The fingerprint on the pawn transaction form was compared to the suspect’s fingerprints, which were on file due to his extensive criminal history for theft (14 previous theft convictions from 4 different states…this guy really gets around).

“These arrests and convictions seem to show a pattern of behavior,” said PCSO.

The fingerprint was confirmed as a match with Butler.

“We would very much like help from the community to let us know where he is. Anyone with knowledge of Mr. Butler’s whereabouts is asked to call Heartland Crime Stoppers—800-226-TIPS (8477)—callers will remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward for information leading to his arrest. Tipsters may also go to www.heartlandcrimestoppers.com,” said PCSO.

“Mr. Butler needs to be removed from the streets and put in jail—he’s a career criminal. If you know where he is, let us know,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.
