Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating the death of 54-year-old inmate Andrew Mayton.

Pinellas County Sheriff Investigating Death Of 54-Year-Old Inmate

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL. – Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating the death of 54-year-old inmate Andrew Mayton.

Detectives say Mayton was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on January 28, 2022, after being arrested by the St Petersburg Police Department for trespassing after warning.

Detectives learned Mayton was transported to a local hospital for medical reasons later that same evening. Mayton was discharged from the hospital the next day and transported back to the Pinellas County Jail.

According to detectives, on February 9, 2022, Mayton was again transported to a local hospital for medical reasons. On February 10, 2022, at approximately 12:00 a.m., Mayton was pronounced deceased.

“At this point in the investigation, detectives have found no evidence that Mayton was in any physical altercations or suffered any injuries while incarcerated,” said Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will work to determine the cause and manner of death.

Mayton’s next of kin has been notified.
