Poll: Republicans gain big ground in toss-up congressional districts won by Biden, as overwhelming numbers of voters fault “out of touch” and “condescending” Dems for economic woes

Poll: Republicans, Including Trump Increasingly Gain Trust, Support Of Hispanic Voters

The Democrats’ unspoken theory about immigration is that Hispanics — the native-born and the newly arrived — will reward them at the ballot box for not only throwing open the southern border for more Hispanic immigrants, but also for supporting amnesty for those already embedded in the country.

The Democrats’ unspoken theory about immigration is that Hispanics — the native-born and the newly arrived — will reward them at the ballot box for not only throwing open the southern border for more Hispanic immigrants, but also for supporting amnesty for those already embedded in the country.

If that’s the theory, it needs some work.

The conservative website Post Millennial highlighted a recent poll that showed Hispanics are abandoning the Democratic Party in droves.

To be sure, Democrats still hold a big lead among Hispanic voters.

But that advantage is far from what it once was.

In short, the NBC News/Telemundo poll found that 54 percent of Latinos want Democrats to stay in control of Congress in this year’s elections. That compares to 33 percent who want to hand the keys to the Republicans.

But back in 2012, the Democrats’ advantage was 42 points. In other words, their lead over the GOP has dwindled by half over the past 10 years.

And that 33 percent in support of GOP control is the highest for the party in the 10 years tracked by the poll.

Here’s another data point from the NBC News/Telemundo poll to show how Hispanics are reacting to Democrats’ left-wing politics.

In September 2016, two months before he was elected president, Donald Trump was 63 points underwater among Hispanics.

Last month, that gap was down to 27 points. The share of Hispanics who have a positive view of Trump has doubled in six years, from 15 percent to 30 percent.

By and large, Hispanics do like President Joe Biden. Overall, 51 percent of them hold a positive view of the current White House dweller.

But that ratio is the same as it was two years ago. Meanwhile, in that time, Biden’s negative rating among Hispanics has climbed from 25 percent to 35 percent — an overall increase of 40 percent in unfavorability.

Hispanics’ view of the GOP has gone up as well, rising from 21 percent in September 2016 to 30 percent last month — the highest in a decade.

The GOP still has its work cut out for it in fully winning over the Hispanic vote.

But the poll indicates that Democrats can no longer take Latinos for granted, no matter how little effort they want to expend in policing the border.
