Russian Stock Investment Expert Toasts The End Of The Stock Market “Rest In Peace Dear Comrade”

On March 2, the RBC Investments YouTube channel launched a special program “Trading in a New Way”, dedicated to trading in Russian stock exchanges, foreign shares, and where it is most profitable to invest money now.

The guest on the issue of the day was Alexander Butmanov, an economist and founder of the Soyuzniki Investment Club and an expert on stock strategies.

After greeting the presenter Elina Tikhonova, Butmanov told Tikhonova that he would not say “good afternoon.”

Tikhonova asked Butmanov if he was going to stay in the stock profession given the enormous downturn in the Russian economy.

He replied that “I’m going to work as Santa Claus, like 25 years ago.” He then held up a bottle of sparkling water and announced that he would toast to the “death” of the stock market.

“Jokes aside, let’s get this done quickly. I send my regards to Sergei Usichenko, who drank 13 years ago to the death of the stock market. Today I drink soda. Dear stock market, you were close to us, interesting. Rest in peace, dear comrade,” said Butmanov.

Butmanov’s interview and salute to the stock market start at 2:00.

Butmanov described the market as the “worst-case scenario,” and he said his long-term career goal was now to “work as Santa Claus, as I did 25 years ago.”

The Russian stock market has been closed for five days as the country’s currency, the ruble, sank in value amid Western sanctions that targeted Russia’s access to the SWIFT interbank messaging system.

Russia began its invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, after Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine. Russian forces attacked a nuclear power plant on Friday, which the United States embassy in Ukraine called a “war crime.”
