Former President Donald Trump spent America’s birthday ripping the one-sided special House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, riot, as well as one of his favorite targets, Rep. Liz Cheney.
Taking to his social media platform Truth Social on Monday, Trump first slammed Cheney, a Republican and Wyoming’s lone congressional rep who is flailing in her re-election bid.
Cheney, who was selected by Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to serve on the J6 panel, is openly courting Democrats in trying to hold on to her seat.
“Warmongering and despicable human being Liz Cheney, who is hated by the great people of Wyoming (down 35!), keeps saying, over and over again, that HER Fake Unselect Committee may recommend CRIMINAL CHARGES against a President of the United States who got more votes than any sitting President in history,” Trump said on Truth Social.
“Even the Dems didn’t know what she was talking about! Why doesn’t she press charges instead against those that cheated on the Election, or those that didn’t properly protect the Capitol?” he added.
The 45th president then launched a broadside at the committee itself.
“Why doesn’t the highly partisan Unselect Committee of political Thugs, the same people (all Trump haters & profiteers – books, speeches, etc.) that were involved with Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax # 2, the ‘No Collusion’ Mueller Report and, overall, the GREATEST WITCH HUNT IN THE HISTORY OF THE USA, go after the people who have been rioting, burning down cities, leading the massive crime wave, & killing many all over the U.S., including drug & human traffickers? No, let’s get ‘Trump’!” Trump posted.
Trump may have been responding to comments Cheney made to ABC News on Sunday.
She claimed that the J6 committee is not “political.”
Yet the only reason Cheney and another anti-Trumper, Rep. Adam Kinzinger, both of whom voted to impeach Trump, are on the panel is because Pelosi refused Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s original picks, which included pro-Trump Reps. Jim Jordan, Jim Banks, and Troy Nehls.
Cheney also told ABC News, “I think there’s no question, I mean, a man as dangerous as Donald Trump can absolutely never be anywhere near the Oval Office ever again.”
Two separate polls in Wyoming released last month showed Harriet Hageman, whom Trump has endorsed, getting 56 percent support, roughly doubling Cheney.
