28-Year-Old Riverview Man Killed In Tarpon Springs Motorcycle Crash

TARPON SPRINGS, FL. – A 28-year-old Riverview man was killed in a crash that happened late Wednesday night in Tarpon Springs.

According to police, at approximately 11:15 pm, officers with the Tarpon Springs Police department were dispatched to a motorcycle crash on southbound US Highway 19 south of Beckett Way.

Officers discovered one severely injured male motorcycle rider and another fatally injured male motorcyclist.  Tarpon Springs Fire Rescue treated the severely injured male and transported him via ground ambulance to Bayonet Point Medical Center.

Another male was pronounced dead on the scene and was identified as 28-year-old Carlos Candelario of Riverview, Florida.

Investigators say a large group of motorcycles were traveling southbound on US 19 heading to Tampa.

For unknown reasons, the motorcycle Candelario was operating swerved into another southbound motorcycle causing both motorcycles to go down.

Candelario was ejected from the motorcycle and suffered fatal traumatic injuries.

“At this point, it does not appear speed, alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash,” said Tarpon Springs Police Department in a statement. “Candelario was wearing a helmet, but it may not have been properly secured and it appears it may have come off during the crash.”

Investigators say a third motorcycle appears to have also crashed but left the scene prior to officers’ arrival.

The investigation is ongoing at this point and we will update this story when more details are released.
