Alas, hope faded as the last grains of sand slipped through the hourglass late Tuesday afternoon. Major League Baseball’s lockout, which had already bitten into Grapefruit League and Cactus League schedules, removed the first two series of the 2022 season.

The LA Dodgers seek to dig the franchise out of a PR hole created by its support for an anti-Catholic group by hosting a pro-Christian event in July.

The Epoch Times reported on Sunday that the Dodgers will hold “Christian Faith and Family Day” on July 30, adding that fans can “stay after the game to celebrate and be part of a day of worship.”

On Twitter, Dodgers star pitcher Clay Kershaw, a devout Christian, noted, “Excited to announce the relaunch of Christian Faith and Family Day at Dodger Stadium on July 30th. More details to come—but we are grateful for the opportunity to talk about Jesus and determined to make it bigger and better than it was before COVID. Hope to see you on July 30th!”

The Dodgers apparently had held such a day in the past, but suspended it during the pandemic, the Times reported.

As The Free Press has reported, the Dodgers have been battered in recent days by criticism from conservatives for support of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a self-described “order of queer and trans nuns” that performs sexually-based shows that mock Jesus Christ and Catholic nuns.

The Dodgers first announced that it was presenting the group its “Community Hero Award” at a June 16 Pride event.

After a backlash, which included criticism from Florida GOP Sen. Marco Rubio, the team disinvited the group from the event.

Yet the Dodgers reversed course and reinstated the invitation after complaints from LGBTQ activists.

The move for “Christian Faith and Family Day” appears to be an attempt to win over those who were upset by the team’s indulgence of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

But that may be a tough sell, according to the Times, as the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is urging the faithful to remain steadfast in the wake of the insult.

“The decision to honor a group that clearly mocks the Catholic faith and makes light of the sincere and holy vocations of our women religious who are an integral part of our church is what has caused disappointment, concern, anger, and dismay from our Catholic community,” the Archdiocese said in a statement.

“The Archdiocese stands against any actions that would disparage and diminish our Christian faith and those who dedicate their lives to Christ.”
