With month after month of underwater approval ratings, President Joe Biden has been unpopular for most of his term.
But with a bevy of economic problems gripping the nation – such as inflation, supply-chain shortages, higher gas prices, and rising interest rates – Biden is wildly unpopular on handling the economy.
In other words, he scaled in new heights when it comes to reaching new lows.
ABC News/Ipsos released a poll on Monday that found 58 percent of Americans disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy as the pandemic slows down.
According to Newsweek, that was “an all-time disapproval high” in the ABC/Ipsos poll.
“While high gas prices aren’t the only manifestation of inflation,” Newsweek noted, “they are usually the most visible and painful example of rising living costs for Americans.”
And it was on that issue specifically where Biden is failing spectacularly, as most Americans see it.
“A record high of 70 percent of the general public said they disapprove of Biden’s response to inflation,” Newsweek reported.
Despite the White House spin on gas prices and inflation generally being Vladimir Putin’s fault, Americans know Biden has no sense of how to restore prosperity.
Newsweek pointed out that the 70-percent figure is up just one percentage point from Biden’s rating when ABC News/Ipsos asked the same question at the close of January and in the middle of December.
In short, Americans saw his dealing with inflation as weak months before Putin invaded Ukraine.
That matters because, as the magazine pointed out, inflation is now the issue Americans cite most often when expressing their biggest concerns – surpassing even the pandemic.
Newsweek noted that Biden’s overall approval rating has gone up a point or two in recent polls. He now stands at 42 percent.
