Newsflash To Gun-Grabbers: Citizen ‘Good Guys’ With Guns Kill More Crooks Than Cops Do, A Study Says

Even if he was joking about making Beto O’Rourke the nation’s gun-grabbing czar as a candidate, President Joe Biden is clearly dismissive of the rights of law-abiding gun owners.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently announced a three-year, $2 million study of gun violence. The agency will analyze nonfatal shootings in 10 states as a “public health” issue.

Biden argued back in April that gun violence was in fact an “epidemic” and a “public health crisis,” whose remedy could be achieved by swiftly booting the Second Amendment to the curb.

But new research by a gun-rights group shows that, once again, Biden’s partisan blinkers are blinding him to reality.

In short, many Americans rely on guns to fend off criminals.

Six months ago, Biden argued the plain text of the Constitution was wrong.

He maintained that critics offered “phony” arguments by saying the several proposals he offered that night – for example, things like mandatory universal background checks on all gun purchases and restrictions on “ghost guns” – was a backdoor attempt at gun control.

Biden then immediately proved the critics correct.

“No amendment — no amendment to the Constitution is absolute,” he said. “From the very beginning, you couldn’t own any weapon you wanted to own. From the very beginning that the Second Amendment existed, certain people weren’t allowed to have weapons. So the idea is just bizarre to suggest that some of the things we’re recommending are contrary to the Constitution.”

Yet last week the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms offered a fresh take on FBI data that illustrated why the Founding Fathers wrote the Second Amendment as they did.

The FBI’s Uniform Crime Report for last year shows that “armed private citizens killed more criminals during the commission of a felony than were killed by police,” the committee said in a press release.

“This data clearly underscores the continuing need for American gun ownership.”

The 700,000-member group’s chairman, Alan Gottlieb, noted that the committee looked at what the FBI says are “justifiable” homicides by both law enforcement and private citizens.

According to the report, police fatally shot 298 felons.

Comparatively, armed citizens killed 343 criminals during the commission of a crime.

“If the FBI data published in their crime report for 2020 is accurate,” Gottlieb said in a statement, “it is ample evidence that the individual right to keep and bear arms for personal defense is as important today as it was when the Second Amendment was adopted as a cornerstone of the Bill of Rights.”

“The use of deadly force is not something anybody wants,” he added, “but neither is being injured or killed by some thug during a violent criminal attack. Self-defense may be the oldest natural right, and every time we hear some politician, public official or gun control extremist call for citizen disarmament, we have to wonder which side they’re on. It certainly can’t be on the side of public safety.”

Gottlieb pointed to studies that show overwhelmingly – in perhaps 99 percent overall – when a gun is pulled in self-defense, no shots are fired, and the crook flees or is arrested.

“Gun prohibitionists who enjoy their own private security while promoting restrictive laws that take guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens are world-class hypocrites,” Gottlieb noted.

“The same people who want to disarm honest citizens are typically those who support policies that are soft on criminals. They haven’t simply lost perspective; they’ve abandoned common sense.”

“This data,” he concluded, “should send a message to criminals that their chances of recidivism are gradually shrinking.”

Someone ought to share that message with the president.
