Last month, a poll revealed that 70 percent of Americans dislike Vice President Kamala Harris.
What was surprising about this is that liberals were surprised by the high tally. After all, Harris was disliked by almost all Democrats just two years ago.
She polled at just 3 percent in the Democratic presidential primary in 2019 when she abandoned ship weeks before the first vote was cast.
Nonetheless, libs intuitively understood the unspoken reason behind her awful poll number. Left-wing late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, for example, said at the time that it was “obvious” that “racism” and “sexism” were to blame for the voters’ 70 percent rejection rate of Harris.
Yet now Harris herself seems to believe the Kimmel Theorem.
On Wednesday, The New York Times sought to explain why President Joe Biden, who opened his term by repeatedly referring to the “Biden-Harris administration,” feels no regret or hesitation about sidelining Harris on key issues. Or as the Times diplomatically put it, Harris “is still struggling to define herself in the Biden White House or meaningfully correct what she and her aides feel is an unfair perception that she is adrift in the job.”
Harris, the Times added, “has privately told her allies that the news coverage of her would be different if she were any of her 48 predecessors, whom she has described as all white and male.”
There is it: racism and sexism.
She should read up on some of the history she actually lived through, when it pertains to Republicans.
Mike Pence was denounced for his Christian faith, especially for defending traditional marriage, and his largely unwavering support for the man who put him on the GOP ticket in 2016. Harris, in fact, fueled that. In March 2019, the media widely distributed her criticism of Pence after it was revealed he refused to meet with women alone. “I think that’s ridiculous,” Harris said, “the idea that you would deny a professional woman the opportunity to have a meeting with the vice president of the United States is outrageous.”
Dick Cheney was referred to as Darth Vader on good days, and a mass murderer and war profiteer on bad ones.
Dan Quayle was mocked endlessly as a buffoon and a political lightweight.
Going back further, she should consider the coverage of Richard Nixon’s first No. 2, Spiro Agnew, who resigned in disgrace, or Nixon himself, who was saddled with the nickname “Tricky Dick” during the entire time he served under Dwight Eisenhower.
Yet, as Harris tells it, she would be more favorably treated if only she was a white man.
Which reveals more about her than it does about the media or the people who reject her work as vice president.
As Robert Spencer, a columnist at PJ Media, noted of Harris’ remark, “Harris almost certainly knows that her comment is achingly stupid. But she also knows that it’s good politics, from her vantage point, to throw red meat to the blue rubes, constantly reinforcing the sense of grievance and entitlement that the Democrat party so carefully cultivates and keeping alive a red flame of bitterness and anger that reliably gets Democrats elected.”
Harris’ point shows that she’s utterly cynical or ignorant. But she is, after all, simply following the Democratic playbook.
